Cheltenham is a south St. Louis neighborhood settled in the late 1800’s and bounded by Oakland to the north, Manchester to the south, Macklind to the east and Hampton to the west.
It is the former home of the St. Louis Arena, affectionately known as the Checkerdome, and the St. Louis Highlands Amusement Park.
In 2005, Balke Brown announced plans for The Lofts at Highland Plaza, a residential project featuring 1, 2 and 3 bedroom rental units. At the same time, the Highlands welcomed a hotel and bar. These projects were followed by the Highlands I and II The Highlands III. The completion of Cortona at Forest Park nearly doubled the amount of apartment units available in the Highlands. The final phase of the project will be the construction of the Encore apartments, slated to be complete in 2017.
Cheltenham is also home to Saint Louis Community College, Paraquad, MidAmerica Transplant Services and Mercedes Benz of St. Louis.
